Chickasaw Mudd Puppies : 90’s Alt Music from Athens, GA
Board thumpin’, porch stompin’, box bangin’ hootin’ & hollerin’, the rootsy Chickasaw Mudd Puppies hit ya like the first sip of ‘shine from the first spring batch. This crazy duet were mainstays of fruitful Athens, GA scene in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, and though they built quite a regional followin’, they purdy much fell to the wayside of grunge.
But Brant Slay on singin’, washboard, harp, and stompboard and other things ya hit, with Ben Reynolds on singin’ vocals, bangin’ and geetars were discovered and produced by that bald-headed fella from R.E.M, and with help from the great Wille Dixon. They done put out two acclaimed LPs—White Dirt in 1990 and 8 Track Stomp in the ‘91
They purdy much disappeared after that, but I done read they’ve gotten back together for a spell to put out a new song for the movie soundtrack of The Mechanic and are planning on incitin’ the crowds at a music fest or two here in ’11.
Put yer ear on a few tracks from 8 Track Stomp and take a look at one them videos on the YouTube. Let the stomping begin…
